Yingxian
Wooden Pagoda |
|
|
Sakyamuni
Pagoda, is also called
Yingxian Wooden Pagoda
as proverb; just as
its name implies,
it is a pagoda totally
adopting wooden structure.
Meanwhile, it is the
existing most archaic
and highest wooden
pagoda in China. It
was first built in
the 2nd year of Qingning
Era in the reign of
Liao Shizong (A.D.1056);
moreover, it is also
the most valuable
treasure of Fogong
Temple in Yingxian
County, Shanxi Province.
The Wooden Pagoda
has eight angles,
five layers and six
eaves. There is a
dark layer built between
each two outward layers,
and the pagoda holds
nine layers in fact.
There are carefully
man-made and gaudy-color
pendentives inserted
between the top of
a column and a crossbeam
of each layer, just
like pieces of rosy
clouds rounding the
pagoda body; in addition,
the tip of the pagoda
top reaches 14 meters.
The bold lines, combined
with well-shaped iron
plate, seem more statedly,
elegant, polychrome,
which not only have
magnifical style,
but also hold deluxe
expression. The bottom
of the wooden pagoda
is hollow and has
its south side open
a door, and with wooden
ladder going straight
to the top. Further
up from the 2nd layer,
there is flat floor
overhanging, corridor,
and guardrail built
outside. Therefore,
the visitors can climb
and lean on the guardrail
to have a complete
view of the scenery.
At the center of the
bottom layer is the
Buddha altar, and
the 11-meter-high
golden body sitting-statue
of Sakyamuni lies
in the throne. Round
of the Buddha statue
is the traverse for
worshipping Buddha.
Whenever Buddhist
ceremony is carried
on, there will be
smoke winding around
and cymbals ringing
together. Meanwhile,
the candle light and
Buddha statue shine
upon each other with
sparkling gold, which
has achieved majestic
and mysterious artistic
conception of space,
and held strong religious
atmosphere.
The micro-sight
of Yingxian Wooden
Pagoda in the Splendid
China Park is built
by copying the original
one with the proportion
of 1:15. The whole
pagoda is in wooden
structure with antique
flavors.
